MIDLAND REGIONAL DRUG & ALCOHOL STRATEGIC PLAN
DRUG & ALCOHOL STRATEGIC PLAN 2017-2019

Recucing Harm, Supporting Recovery
A Health-led response to drug and alcohol use in Ireland 2017-2025

The Trends and developments report presents a top-level overview of the drug phenomenon in Europe, covering drug supply, use and public health problems as well as drug policy and responses. Together with the online Stastistical bulletin, Country overviews and Perspectives on drugs, it makes up to 2013 European Drug Report package.

This update presents figures from the National Drug-Related Deaths Index (NDRDI) on deaths due to poisoning by alcohol and/or other drugs, and deaths among drug users, in the period 2004 to 2010.

This is a EMCDDA publication. Examining the evolution of Irish drug policy through four periods of historic development, the report explores: the country's national strategies; the legal context within which they operate; the public funds spent, or committed, to implement them; and the political bodies and mechanisms set up to coordinate the response to the problem. The profile sets this information in context by outlining the size, wealth and economic situation of the country as a whole, as well as the historical development of the current policy.

A Department of Health, Health Research Board and Ipsos MRBI report on the knowledge, opinions and behaviours of the general public in relation to alcohol consumption and whether they agreed or disagreed with some of the measures proposed in the recently published Report of the Working Group on a National Substance Misuse Strategy (for alcohol)

The My World Survey is the largest and most substantial research project conducted on youth mental health in Ireland.

For the first time an integrated approach to substance misuse is envisaged, bringing together policy responses to alcohol use and misuse and to the misuse of other substances. This will be achieved by the implementation of the recommendations in this report which are focused on alcohol taken together with the National Drugs Strategy 2009-2016 such that these form one single, integrated policy response.

This paper describes trends in treated problem drug use in Ireland between 2005 and 2010. The analysis presented is based on data reported to the National Drug Treatment Reporting System (NDTRS) and to the Central Treatment List (CTL). It is important to note that each record in the NDTRS database relates to a treatment episode (a case), and not to a person. This means that the same person could be counted more than once in the same calendar year if he/she had more than one treatment episode in that year.
HRB Trends Series 12.

The data presented in this paper describe trends in problem benzodiazepine use in Ireland. The paper describes treated problem benzodiazepine use as recorded by the National Drug Treatment Reporting System (NDTRS) for the years 2003–2008, and poisoning deaths where a benzodiazepine was implicated as recorded by the National Drug-Related Deaths Index (NDRDI) for the years 1998–2007. This is the first time that data from the NDTRS and the NDRDI have been presented together in a Trends Series paper. The presentation of these data together provides a more complete picture of problem benzodiazepine use and its consequences.
